The memorial clock tower was constructed in 1909 in memory JWW Birch, first British Resident to Perak slain while taking bath at riverside in Pasir Salak.
The clock which chime every hour ironically located on Dato Maharaja Lela Street, Perak Malay nobleman who mastermind the British Resident due to his 'loud mouth' and overbearing attitude toward the natives
